Enugu Assembly moves to remove deputy governor
The Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday began impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor of the state, Sunday Onyebuchi.
The Deputy Governor has been at daggers drawn with his boss Governor Sullivan Chime, whom political pundits poit up as the unseen hand behind the move to throw Onyebuchi out of office.
Reports from the State Assembly said that 22-member House dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at its plenary directed its Clerk to serve impeachment notice on the deputy governor.
It was learnt that 20 out of the 22 lawmakers have already signed the impeachment notice.
Those who are informed about the political faceoff between the governor and his deputy said that the trouble started since the former returned from his medical trip in February 2013 and learnt that his deputy had plotted the removal of his chief of state, Mrs Ifeoma Nwobodo while he was away..
Mr. Chime is allegedly opposed to the plan by his deputy to contest the Enugu East Senatorial election next year, as he said to be supporting Mrs Nwobodo, for the position currently occupied by Gilbert Nnaji.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) have , described the allegations for the planned impeachment of the deputy governor as flimsy and spurious.
The party, in a statement by its spokesman in the South East, Mr Osita Okechukwu, therefore, urged the Enugu House of Assembly to withdraw the impeachment notice.
It said, 'We were outraged when we received the disturbing news that the Enugu State House of Assembly had served notice of impeachment on the Deputy Governor of the state, His Excellency, Chief SundayOnyebuchi.
